It’s hard to overstate Osamu Tezuka's influence on comics worldwide. Although the "God of Manga" died in 1989, his stories are being read and rediscovered by a new generation of readers thanks to innovative re-imaginings of his characters by Japanese and international creators. Recent Tezuka-inspired stories include Unico: Awakening, a collaboration between American author Samuel Sattin and Japanese manga team Gurihiru from Scholastic; Team Phoenix, a sci-fi superhero tale created by Spanish manga creator Kenny Ruiz from Udon Entertainment; and Search and Destroy, a dystopian sci-fi take on Dororo by Atsushi Kaneko from Fantagraphics.
